Job Title: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, Intro to Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Ability to circulate in OR, competency in normal newborn assessments and routine baby care, ability to float to Postpartum Description: The position involves providing care in the Labor and Delivery unit. Nurses are expected to ensure patient safety and provide high-quality care during labor, delivery, and postpartum. Candidates must adhere to the fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails during patient care. The unit features 16 labor rooms and 9 antepartum rooms. The staff must be able to manage a workload that includes assessments of patients greater than 20 weeks with pregnancy complaints. The unit supports various birth scenarios, including high-risk obstetric care and routine deliveries. Daily, there are up to 400 births processed monthly. The unit follows established guidelines for labor and antepartum nurse-to-patient ratios. Nurses will be required to titrate specific medications such as Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate. There is a charge nurse present on each shift who will have an assignment. Surgical techs will assist on the unit alongside nurses. An obstetrician-neonatologist and anesthesia professionals are available 24/7. Monitoring equipment and technical assistance will be available to nursing staff. All shifts are from 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700. Staff members are expected to work every third weekend, with potential additional weekend shifts based on needs. Holidays also require coverage, with one major and one minor holiday taken. Nurses must be adaptable to floating responsibilities, which can include care for patients in the postpartum unit. Scrubs are provided for the role.
