Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 4 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP Must-Have: Experience with C-sections Computer charting experience, preferably Cerner Description: The unit consists of 18 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) beds, 14 OB triage beds, and 8 antepartum beds. Average deliveries range from 8 to 10 per day, totaling approximately 322 to 344 per month. There are 2 fully equipped operating rooms on the unit for C-sections. Nurse-to-patient ratios generally follow AWHONN guidelines and are typically 2:1, but may vary depending on patient acuity. Antepartum assignments can reach a 4:1 ratio, and C-section assignments operate at a 1:1 ratio. Travelers are required to pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% prior to acceptance. Travelers will participate in a simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Confidence is essential for circulating and recovering C-sections. There is no mandatory call or standby, although volunteer opportunities are available. The average unit handles gestations of 28 weeks or greater and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center. Nurses will be required to titrate medications per established protocols. Charting is conducted using Cerner. Cancellation by the hospital can occur for up to 4 shifts during the assignment.
