Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Labor and Delivery License: Active RN license Certifications: AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, NRP, ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 2+ years of Labor and Delivery experience. Completion of 1 or more travel contracts is preferred. Description: This position is for a Labor and Delivery unit. The unit has 9 labor rooms, 6 triage rooms, 3 AP rooms, and 3 operating rooms. Patient ratios are 1:1-2 for laboring, 1:2-3 for AP, and 1:1 for cesarean sections and PACU. An OB technician is always part of the staffing to assist with cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries. There is one dedicated charge nurse to assist with triage and transport, in addition to a unit secretary available from 0700 to 2300. Documentation is managed through Meditech and Centricity. The unit operates with a requirement of 3 shifts per week. If working during winter holidays, employees must work 1-2 days or evenings. Floating to Mother Baby is possible but infrequent, and floating to other departments is not permitted. Procedures performed on the unit include cervical exams, IUPC and FSE placement, vaginal deliveries, IV starts with lab draws, circulating cesarean sections, and recovering cesarean sections, which are usually performed with spinal anesthesia, but general anesthesia may be used occasionally. Our facility experiences a monthly birth volume of over 200 deliveries. The facility is undergoing significant growth, with new practices and healthcare providers being added. A laborist program ensures 24-hour coverage by both an MD and a Certified Nurse Midwife. Dedicated anesthesia providers are also available 24 hours a day. The facility is proud to be the first in the area to offer nitrous oxide therapy for pain management, in addition to epidural analgesia. Extensive renovations have been completed in labor and delivery, including new state-of-the-art mother-baby rooms. The nursing staff utilizes advanced tools such as the Jada, fetal pillow, and Cook's catheters. Many staff members have completed training in Spinning Babies and Supporting Vaginal Birth classes to enhance patient care and outcomes.
