Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Colorado Certifications: BLS & NRP required, PALS preferred Must-Have: Minimum of an Associate's Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program Description: Work where others vacation in a beautiful location. Two years of experience is required. The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Family Birthing Center is capable of independently assessing and evaluating the health status of both labor and neonate patients. Objective and subjective data will be utilized to identify healthcare problems. Through the care planning process, the RN collaborates with the patient, family, providers, and others on the healthcare team. Realistic and measurable short and long-term goals are established. Prioritizing needs through thorough planning is essential. The RN implements all interventions, including patient education and counseling. Maintaining safe and effective care throughout the episode of care is crucial. Standard procedures are instituted to stabilize each patient's condition or to prevent serious complications in emergency situations. Each intervention is evaluated and documented to determine the outcome of care. The RN acts as a patient advocate. Direct patient care is provided and the patient's response to labor, delivery, and postpartum phases of pregnancy is monitored. Assisting and educating in breastfeeding as needed is part of the role. Wellness for the mother is promoted during pregnancy and after delivery through continuous education. Education is provided to the mother about infant care. All events and education are documented in the patient medical record. The RN communicates the patient's condition verbally and in writing to the physician and nursing supervisor. Collaboration with nursery staff in the care of mother/baby couples is essential. Assisting physicians with procedures is part of the responsibilities. Assisting with emergencies in other nursing units is expected when possible. A clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients in the unit must be maintained. The physical demands of the position require using hands for handling and feeling, talking, and hearing. Frequent standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching is required. Regular lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities include close vision for reading, color vision to observe patient changes, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
