Job Title: RN - L&D Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of current acute care Labor and Delivery experience License: Current RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (IFM) Must-Have: - Minimum 1-year current acute care Labor and Delivery experience - ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (IFM) Description: This position involves working in a Birth Care Center with 20 labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum beds and 2 operating rooms. The unit staff includes a charge nurse, registered nurses, surgical techs, and admission control techs. Night shift staffing consists of 1 charge nurse, 5 registered nurses, 1 surgical tech, and 1 admission control tech. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1-2:1 for labor and 3-4:1 for postpartum care. There is a separate lactation registered nurse team to support breastfeeding. Equipment used includes GE fetal monitors, Monica Novii monitors, and Alaris pumps. Documentation is performed using an electronic medical record system. Scheduling requires availability for 3 twelve-hour shifts each week. Floating within women's units may be required as needed. Nurse leader rounding is conducted daily to ensure high-quality patient care. A bedside shift report and communication boards are utilized for effective communication. The unit values 1:1 labor support and the active management of labor positions. Patients must be at least 37 weeks gestational age and meet low-risk criteria to deliver in this facility. The Birth Care Center is a teaching facility with a dedicated anesthesia team and a 24/7 hospitalist available for emergencies. An average of 110-130 births occur each month in the center. The cesarean section rate averages 10%. The team consists of many tenured nurses who foster a collaborative work environment.
