Job Title: Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN Profession: RN Specialty: Interventional Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 1 year in critical care, emergency, cath lab, or interventional radiology License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS certification Must-Have: Experience in interventional radiology or cath lab, conscious sedation training Description: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures such as angiography, embolization, cardiac catheterization, and other minimally invasive interventions. This role works collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The RN acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to him/her. The RN may be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. Essential job functions include performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. In the nursing/circulator role, the RN administers medications as ordered, including anticoagulants, vasoactive agents, contrast, and emergency drugs. The RN maintains sterile technique and assists with procedures as required. Acting as a patient advocate, the RN anticipates the needs of the interventionalist and recognizes complications, responding rapidly as necessary. In collaboration with radiology technicians and physicians, the RN identifies and addresses contrast allergies or sensitivities. The RN participates in pre-procedure discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents and ensures allergy considerations are communicated during the timeout. When assigned to moderate sedation, the RN verifies ASA classification and consults anesthesia for an ASA score of IV or greater. The RN provides moderate sedation per protocol and monitors vital signs, hemodynamics, oxygenation, ventilation, and level of consciousness. If functioning in the scrub role, the RN uses sterile techniques to assist physicians during procedures, preparing and organizing sterile instruments and responding quickly during critical moments. As the primary monitor technologist, the RN records hemodynamic data, pressures, and procedural events, ensuring accurate documentation of events, medications, and device deployment. The RN assists with patient preparation, positioning, and connecting monitoring equipment. In collaboration with the clinical team, the RN verifies allergies, NPO status, renal function, and other relevant clinical factors. The RN performs patient identification, procedure verification, and timeout processes according to institutional policy. Additionally, the RN assists with managing supplies, ensuring room turnover efficiency, and ensuring devices are cleaned and stored properly. The RN should possess the ability to provide care for patients' age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being. Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking is preferred, as is the ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
