Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (Cardiac/Neuro)

Schedule / Job TypeContract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care in a blended Step Down unit (19 beds) serving cardiac and neurological patient populations, including post-procedure cardiac care, CVAs, seizures, sepsis, and DKA
- Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation; candidates will be required to pass a tele competency test
- Initiate and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin
- Conduct NIHSS and comprehensive neurological assessments; provide post-heart cath care including femoral and TR band management
- Manage chest tubes, perform PIV insertion, and apply strong critical thinking and assessment skills across a 1:5–6 patient ratio
- Float within skillset to sister campuses as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus float assignments; may precept students and new hires as a teaching facility
Required Qualifications- Current, active Registered Nurse compact license required
- AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of solid Step Down experience plus at least 1 travel contract, OR 5 years of solid Step Down experience with no travel experience
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Must not be a local candidate; 40-mile radius restriction applies
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience with post-procedure cardiac patients including cath/stents, pacemakers, ICDs, and ablations, as well as STEMI/NSTEMI identification and management
- Prior travel nursing experience in a Step Down or IMC/PCU setting
- Familiarity with carotid endarterectomy and sepsis care protocols
