Job Summary:
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Baltimore, Maryland. This position involves providing care for critically ill post-operative cardiac, vascular, and thoracic patients in a fast-paced surgical step-down environment. The RN will care for patients recovering from complex cardiac and vascular surgeries, including those with Mechanical Circulatory Support devices like LVADs and post-heart or lung transplant recovery. The role emphasizes managing high acuity patients with expertise in cardiovascular and critical care nursing.

  • Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: RN license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, at least 2 years of cardiac open heart recovery experience, two previous travel assignments, strong surgical inpatient care experience, proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record system, management of high-acuity patients in intensive care settings, ability to care for patients 1+ days post-CABG, valve repairs, and valve replacements.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Critical Care Certification, ACLS certification.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required.
  • Additional Information: The unit is a 32-bed surgical care environment specializing in post-op cardiac, vascular, and thoracic patients. Twelve beds are dedicated to continuous cardiac monitoring with the remaining beds for telemetry or non-monitored levels of care. The RN-to-patient ratios during the day typically are 1:3, and 1:4 at night. Previous employment within any Johns Hopkins health system facility must be disclosed and verified prior to application.
