Job Title

Registered Nurse – Whole House Float (ICU / PCU / Med-Surg)

Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities
  • Float between ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units based on staffing needs, which are re-evaluated every four hours; candidate may float up to two to three times per shift
  • Provide direct patient care across all three unit types, maintaining competency with varying patient ratios (ICU 2:1, PCU 5:1, MS up to 7:1)
  • Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Manage tracheostomy care, non-invasive and invasive airway support including CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, administer continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Document all patient care accurately using EPIC electronic health records
Required Qualifications
  • Active Virginia RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license considered only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
  • Minimum of two years of ICU experience in a large Level I or Level II facility
  • Demonstrated comfort and competency working across ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units with patient ratios of at least 1:5
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Proficiency with EPIC charting system required
  • Must be willing to work one holiday per 13-week contract; two holidays required during winter holiday scheduling blocks
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Prior travel nursing experience, though first-time travelers are accepted
  • Experience with Emerson or PleurEvac chest tube systems
  • Familiarity with stroke care protocols and thrombectomy-capable stroke center environments
