Summary: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse delivers specialized care to critically ill patients in a high-acuity environment. This role involves continuous patient assessment, management of life-sustaining therapies and equipment, administration of complex treatments, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team. The position requires advanced clinical expertise, strong decision-making skills, effective communication, and a dedication to maintaining patient safety and professional standards. Key Responsibilities: Continuously evaluate and monitor critically ill patients, identifying and responding to even subtle changes in condition Administer advanced medications and therapies in accordance with established critical care protocols Operate and oversee sophisticated life-support and monitoring equipment Promote patient safety and comfort by addressing both physical and emotional needs in the ICU setting Document patient conditions, responses, and interventions, and promptly communicate changes to the appropriate provider Perform and interpret hemodynamic monitoring, including arterial lines, central venous pressure (CVP), and pulmonary artery catheters Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all care activities to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance Educate patients and families about ICU care, procedures, and recovery expectations Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes Maintain competency in critical care techniques and emerging technologies through ongoing education Follow strict infection prevention practices to reduce risk and protect vulnerable patients Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and operational effectiveness Carry out additional duties within scope of practice as assigned Comply with all hospital safety standards, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements Required Skills and Qualifications: Strong critical thinking abilities, dedication to high-quality care, and effective interpersonal communication skills Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to understand written materials, follow verbal instructions, and utilize computer systems effectively Physical capability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the unit, and lift or handle equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team while maintaining professionalism Fine motor skills and coordination necessary for performing procedures and operating equipment Ability to manage frequent patient and family interactions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Capacity to work independently or with minimal supervision as needed Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and maintain close attention to detail Adequate visual acuity and communication ability to safely perform job duties
