Prevention of illness and injury is a key focus. The RN alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a fundamental responsibility. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice. Professional development is essential in accordance with relevant nursing regulations and policies. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN serves as the primary nurse and/or accountable nurse based on unit assignment. Effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management, is part of the role. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management. A working knowledge of pharmacology is essential for safely administering medications. Participation in professional development and completion of mandatory education is expected. The RN engages in nursing research and integrates current evidence into practice. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is encouraged. Adherence to all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is mandatory. The RN will perform other duties as assigned.
