Transport Nurse Specialist Profession: RN Specialty: ICU/ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of three years critical care experience preferred OR two years in a high volume tertiary care ICU/Emergency Department, OR two years of recent critical care transport experience as a team leader REQUIRED License: Current and unrestricted RN licensure - clean, with no hits Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, NIHSS required Must-Have: One advanced nursing certification: CEN, CCRN, CTRN, or CFRN preferred Description: Looking for critical care transport RNs for air or land transport. Shift times are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Weekends are the biggest need for this role. It is expected that candidates will work at least every other weekend. The Transport Nurse Specialist provides safe and therapeutic care during inter-hospital transport of a wide variety of patients from infants through adults. The nurse autonomously conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, clinical stabilization, and provision of diagnostic, medical, and surgical interventions during transport. The nurse collaborates with other health team members and individuals to problem solve and implement treatment modalities to maximize patient outcomes. This role supports the mission of the organization by establishing and maintaining constructive departmental and inter-organizational relationships. Participation in clinical training, didactic education, research, and continuous quality improvement activities is mandatory, including departmental and hospital requirements. Regularly scheduled simulation and skill labs are included in training. Advanced invasive procedures such as endotracheal intubation, chest wall decompression, escharotomy, cricothyroidotomy, pericardiocentesis, and central line insertion are taught. The Transport Nurse Specialist demonstrates expert clinical acumen, critical thinking skills, and autonomous practice. Successful completion of selective testing tools in areas of advanced practice nursing is required. This includes understanding of hemodynamically unstable patients, critically ill pediatric patients, airway or respiratory compromise, acute trauma, severe sepsis, and multisystem organ failure. Demonstrates problem-solving skills and independent decision-making in collaboration with peers and physicians. Positive and constructive communication in stressful situations is essential. Effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare team members is required. The Transport Nurse Specialist provides accurate and objective feedback in a respectful and professional manner. Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities is necessary. Demonstrates knowledge of commonly utilized emergency medications, including dose and efficacy. Understanding and compliance with regulatory, departmental, and hospital requirements is expected.
