Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of recent ICU experience required License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years recent ICU experience - Driver's license required - Pass/Fail exam during orientation Description: Interview with unit leaders is required. Candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any competing facility. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove nails will result in termination of contract. RNs must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation. Successful completion requires a score of 90% or better. Department accommodates a mix of adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, and cardiogenic shock. Additional patient types include those with renal failure, general surgery needs, psych/overdose situations, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries. Experience is not required for specialized procedures as on-the-job training is provided. RNs are required to titrate various medications, including vasopressors and sedation drugs. Charge nurse is present on each shift and attends Rapid Response and Code situations. There are nursing aids/patient care techs available to assist with duties. Patient ratios for nurse aids are 1:18. Telemetry techs are not available, so RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled by management based on unit needs. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements are 2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed. Floating to inpatient units will occur, excluding maternity and NICU. Scrub color is navy blue. Two shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided. The unit environment is fast-paced and requires adaptability. Ideal candidates possess critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and a collaborative approach to patient care. RTO (requested time off) must be provided upfront and additional RTO after submission is not approved. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment. Experience with EPIC charting system is preferred.
