Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2+ years in ICU License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience - Experience running codes - Phlebotomy experience is a plus - Previous travel nursing experience preferred - Meditech experience is a plus Description: The unit has 8 ICU beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3, depending on patient acuity. Common diagnoses include sepsis, general medical conditions, general surgical cases, stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, pneumonia, alcohol withdrawal, and post-cath recovery. ICU Registered Nurses are expected to run codes within the facility. In the event of a code, unit nurses will cover for each other. There is telemedicine support available, and nurses are responsible for monitoring their patients. The position requires titration of drips such as Levo, Neo, Propofol, Fentanyl, Precedex, Insulin, and TNK. Some medication mixing may be required. Charge Nurse responsibilities include taking patient assignments with a patient-free nursing supervisor available. Care support staff, unit secretaries, and CNAs are present when acuity demands it. A hospitalist is in-house 24/7 during the day. Shifts are 12 hours long, scheduled based on unit needs and census. Staffing ensures at least one nurse is present even when patient occupancy is low. Weekend requirements consist of working every other weekend. Holiday rotation is expected. Floating to MedSurg, Tele, and ER for full patient loads may be required. Professional scrubs in any color are permitted. Department-specific orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts with resources for documentation provided.
