Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: Council Bluffs, IA

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night shifts, 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM; 12-hour nights, rotating schedule with every third weekend (holiday coverage includes July 4); no call/standby
Hours per Week: 36
Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and manage critically ill patients in a 16-bed Medical ICU, delivering high-acuity nursing care
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and verify strips; collaborate with centralized tele-monitor techs
- Manage ventilators and troubleshoot respiratory support in partnership with RTs
- Administer and titrate vasoactive drips and sedatives safely (vasopressors, propofol, precedex, etc.)
- Document accurate, timely patient records in EPIC and communicate changes in condition
- Stabilize patients for transfer when needed and coordinate with hospitalists/intensivists
- Work with the charge nurse and the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care
- Float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) when ICU census allows
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care assessment and triage skills
- Hands-on ventilator and BiPAP familiarity; ability to troubleshoot
- Proficient with vasoactive drip titration and sedation protocols
- Cardiac monitoring skills and ability to read/verify strips
- Experience charting in EPIC
- Familiarity with Draeger monitors and centralized telemetry workflows
- Effective communication and teamwork in high-acuity environments
