Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years recent ICU experience required License: Active Registered Nurse license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Driver's license required Description: Interview with unit leaders is required. Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in all patient care departments. Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to termination of contract. RN’s must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation. This is an open-book exam based on skills learned during orientation. Candidates will have all necessary resources to pass the exam. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass, or termination of contract will occur. This unit has a total of 34 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 for ICU, 1:4-5 for PCU, and 1:5-6 for MS. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, and stroke. Candidates will receive training in real-time for neuro interventionalist procedures. Candidates will also receive training for advanced equipment and protocols. RNs are required to titrate drips, including vasopressors and sedatives. A charge nurse is present on each shift and will attend rapid response teams and codes. There are nurse aids or patient care techs on this unit with ratios of 1:18. Registered Nurses must troubleshoot equipment related to respiratory therapy. There are no tele/monitor techs on this unit; RNs will need to read and interpret strips. Shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. The manager will create the schedule based on unit needs. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday requirements involve working 2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed. RNs may float to all inpatient units, excluding specific areas. The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs. Unit specific orientation consists of 2 shifts. Candidates should possess critical thinking skills and a positive attitude. Collaboration with attending and student providers is an essential part of care. RTO must be communicated upfront, and additional RTO will not be approved. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system utilized is EPIC. A BSN is required for submission. This setting is acute care. Trauma level is classified as 1.
