Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Candidates must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facility. Description: Unit notes include a radius rule of 50 miles. Candidates must provide a valid driver's license. Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments. Refusal to remove artificial nails may lead to termination of the contract. Registered Nurses will take a pass/fail exam on Wednesdays during the orientation period. The exam is open book and covers skills learned during orientation. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass the exam, or termination will occur. Blocked scheduling is not typically approved unless it is for weekends only. Duo scheduling for candidates wanting the same schedule is not allowed. If candidates are called back in from being on-call, they have 30 minutes to arrive. The unit consists of 33 beds with an average daily census of 16. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:2-3 for adults. Common patient diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, including any cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation. Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist with 1:1 patient care or other needs on the floor. Healthcare support technicians work 3 days per week. Registered Nurses may need to troubleshoot respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow. Shift times are from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Self-scheduling is allowed for core staff, with travelers added in. Monitors are present, and Registered Nurses must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips. Floating may occur to different units, typically PCU or MedSurg, maintaining similar nurse-patient ratios. Holiday requirements include a minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Orientation for the unit includes 1 shift. Request for time off should be submitted upfront, with a maximum of 7 days permitted within the 13-week contract. Additional time off requests will not be approved after submissions. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
