Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of ICU experience preferred License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; PALS & TNCC preferred Must-Have: ICU experience with drips, vents, and BiPAP Description: RN's must pass a comprehensive open book exam during orientation. Passing score is 90%, failure to pass will result in termination. Candidates must reside outside a specific radius and cannot be employed at any affiliated facilities. Artificial nails are not permitted in any patient care departments. Common diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1. RNs are required to titrate drips, including vasopressors and sedation agents. A Charge Nurse oversees each shift and takes an assignment. No nurse assistants are present on the unit. Hospitalists are available 24/7, with intensivists on-site during the day and accessible via telemedicine at night. Respiratory Therapy shares coverage with the emergency room and handles all adjustments. Telemetry monitoring is conducted by centralized techs, with nurses required to read and verify strips. Shifts run from 18:30 to 07:00, with a requirement for every third weekend. RNs are not required to be on-call or standby. Floating to the Progressive Care Unit may occur if needed. Scrubs must be navy blue. The unit requires 1 shift of orientation for ICU and 1 shift for the Progressive Care Unit. Initial time off requests must be submitted upfront, with additional requests not approved after submission. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during the assignment. Charting is done using an electronic system. Only RNs with a BSN can be considered for this position. This is a trauma level 3 care setting.
