Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: BICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2+ years of recent PCU experience required License: Valid nursing license in hand at time of submission Certifications: BLS and ACLS required Must-Have: Experience with similar patient population preferred Previous charge RN experience preferred Teaching hospital experience preferred Description: The unit has 22 beds (16 rooms) with an average daily census of 20. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Common cases involve burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, GYN, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgeries. Special procedures include burn dressings, flap checks, and leech therapy. The shift is 12-hour nights from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Every other or third weekend is required. Floating within the organization is required. The unit utilizes EPIC for documentation and the Pyxis medication system. Skills required include: Arterial line management Blood product administration Central line care and management Feeding tube care and management Heparin protocols Interpretation of dysrhythmias Isolation precautions and PPE IV insulin protocols Management of dysrhythmias Starting and maintaining IVs Phlebotomy PICC line management Use of rapid response and code teams Wound care, including wound vacs Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Patient diagnoses cover burns, plastic surgery including abdominal wall reconstruction and flaps, leech therapy, urology, GYN surgeries, ENT, and oral/max surgeries. Candidates must complete all credentialing processes promptly. Professional references are required, including at least one from a manager or director. Travelers must have a valid nursing license at the time of submission. Education must be from an accredited program.
