United Health Care Staffing is seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a busy Medical Intensive Care Unit. This position is ideal for nurses who thrive in high-acuity environments and are comfortable managing critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-support therapies.

Unit: Intensive Care Unit
Shift: 12 Hour Nights (1830–0700)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Care Setting: Acute Care Hospital
Trauma Level: 3
Charting System: Epic

Unit Overview
16-bed Medical ICU
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1
Charge nurse available each shift and may also carry a patient assignment.

Common Diagnoses and Patient Types
Sepsis
Respiratory failure
Stroke
Myocardial infarction
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Atrial fibrillation with RVR
Pulmonary embolism
COVID-19 and COPD exacerbations

Patients requiring specialized care beyond facility capabilities may be stabilized and transferred to CHI Health Bergan Mercy for advanced treatment.

Clinical Responsibilities
Management of ventilated patients and respiratory support including ventilators and BiPAP
Titration of critical care medications such as vasopressors and sedation
Common drips include Levophed, Neo-Synephrine, Cardene, Precedex, and Propofol
Continuous cardiac monitoring with rhythm interpretation
Collaboration with hospitalists available 24/7 and intensivists available during daytime hours with telemedicine support overnight

Support Services
Respiratory Therapy shared with the Emergency Department
Centralized telemetry monitoring technicians with nurses verifying cardiac rhythms
Telemetry system utilizes Draeger monitors

Scheduling and Orientation
Weekend requirement: Every third weekend
Holiday requirement: Fourth of July coverage
Floating: May float to Progressive Care Unit when census allows
Scrub color: Navy Blue
Orientation: One shift in ICU and one shift in PCU

Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years ICU experience preferred
Experience managing ventilators, drips, and BiPAP therapy
Previous travel experience preferred

Required Certifications
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
PALS and TNCC preferred

Important Submission Requirements
Candidates must live outside the 50-mile radius
Candidates cannot currently work or have worked within the past year at facilities affiliated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health
Driver’s license required at submission for radius verification
Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
Orientation includes an open-book competency exam requiring a 90 percent passing score
