Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights EOW or up to 3 weekends per month if unit is busy; first to float Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience; experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 3 years of recent ICU experience - Experience in either neuro or cardiovascular care - Ability to titrate drips Description: This position requires a full 3 years of recent ICU experience to be considered; no exceptions. Experience must also include either neuro or cardiovascular care. Candidates are required to pass a dysrhythmia exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of a position; maximum attempts is 2. There will also be a pass/fail simulation lab on Day 1. Common patient diagnoses include level 1 trauma, falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents, and specialty neurosurgery cases. Common conditions treated include strokes, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Registered Nurses will be required to titrate various medications. The typical nurse-to-patient ratios will be 1:2 or 1:1. Charge nurses will not take patients. There will not be nurse aides on this unit; aides are only used for sitters and as health unit secretaries. Hospitalists or intensivists will be available in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy will also be available in the ICU 24/7. Staff will be required to interpret their own telemetry strips using GE monitors. Self-scheduling is available, though the manager may need to balance shifts based on unit needs. Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule; night shifts are Friday to Saturday, and day shifts are Saturday to Sunday. Staff may have 1 holiday off during an assignment. There is no additional call or standby requirement; however, there may be low census up to 3 times per contract depending on unit needs. Registered Nurses may be required to float to other units as needed at a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4. Unit-specific orientation will last 1-2 days. Skills will be validated for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed. Expectations include floating between sister ICU units. Cancelation policy may allow for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments that are less than 13 weeks. The charting system utilized will be Cerner.
