Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Active RN license ACLS certification BLS certification ICU experience Description: This position involves providing care to critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. The unit has 16 beds with patient ratios typically of 2:1, with occasional 1:1 or 3:1 assignments based on acuity and staffing. During dayshift, there is a unit secretary available, along with an occasional nurse extern working as a tech. Care is delivered using various types of equipment, including ventilators, external ventricular drains, continuous renal replacement therapy, and SLED. The documentation system utilized is Meditech. Self-scheduling is available to some extent, with a minimum requirement of 4 weekend shifts per schedule. The manager may adjust shifts to help balance the schedule as needed. In cases of staffing shortages, contract labor may be asked to float to other units. Expected patient experience includes providing attentive and compassionate care to patients and their family members. Advanced skills required for this position include procedures such as insertion of central lines, arterial lines, lumbar punctures, chest tube insertions, and EVD insertions. Dress code is navy scrubs for tops and bottoms. Candidates should be aware of the opportunities for working with new equipment and technology, as well as the experience level of the staff on the unit.
