Job Title: Critical Care Float Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Critical Care Float Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years of critical care experience required License: Active nursing license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Previous charge experience Charting system experience required Description: The critical care float pool requires flexibility in scheduling. The position involves working in various critical care units including Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac Care Unit, and Oncology ICU. All ICU units care for patients with severe medical conditions requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. Every other weekend is required, including Saturday and Sunday. If a holiday occurs during the assignment period, scheduling may include holiday shifts. Nurses will provide care for patients with conditions such as sepsis, trauma, DKA, neuro issues, CABG, STEMI, and renal failure. Staffing ratios in the SICU and MICU are 1:2, in the CCU 1:3, and in the OICU 1:3. Critical care nurses must possess skills in managing ventilated patients, IV sedation, and monitoring vital signs. Experience with procedures such as arterial line management, chest tube care, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is essential. Candidates must have proficient knowledge of interpreting arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias. It is crucial to adhere to isolation precautions and infection prevention protocols. Team support includes IV teams, respiratory services, and rapid response teams. Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills are necessary for this role.
