Job Title: Registered Nurse - SICU/ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years ICU experience License: Current Registered Nurse license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Stroke experience - Ventilator management - Experience assisting with intubation/extubation - Central venous line management and placement - Foley catheter management - Tube feedings via NGT or PEG - IV medication titration - Vasoactive drip management - Total care of critically ill patients - Arterial line management - EVD drain management Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the ICU. The unit has 20 beds with an average patient census of 16 per day. Patient types include adult surgical and medical ICU patients. Common diagnoses include STEMI, DKA, respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, and renal failure. Neurosurgical patients may include craniotomies, spinal surgeries, and traumatic brain injury cases. Surgical patients may include those undergoing general surgery, total joints, urology, and neurosurgery. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. The nurse will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance. On day shifts, the charge nurse has no patient assignment. There is one CNA per shift and a phlebotomy team for peripheral lab draws. A PICC team is available during the day. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7. A hospitalist is also available around the clock. The unit uses Meditech Expanse for electronic medical records. IV pumps utilized include Alaris, with medication dispensing through Pyxis. Floating is required; staff may float to PCU or MedSurg as needed. In PCU, the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, and in MedSurg, it is 1:5. Weekend rotation is every other weekend, and holiday work may be required. Request time off is limited to no more than 7 days. Shift times are from 0700 to 1900 or 1900 to 0700. The schedule may include various rotation patterns such as 3/2 or 5/2 schedules. Scrub color is pewter gray, with T-shirts in gray, white, or black acceptable. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges are to be worn visibly at all times. The unit culture encourages teamwork and collaboration among staff.
