Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU/PCU Float Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years of critical care experience License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS Must-Have: Critical Care experience Description: This position involves floating between critical care and stepdown units. The ICU has 24 beds, while the PCU has 26 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 2:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity, and 4:1 in the PCU. Staff RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Levophed, amiodarone, heparin, precedex, propofol, cardene, nitro, neosynephrine, dopamine, etc. There is a charge nurse on the floor and a house supervisor on each shift. No nurse aides are typically available in the ICU; 1-2 aides are present in the PCU per shift. An intensivist is available during the day, and hospitalists are present around the clock. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 in the ICU. Equipment includes vents, BiPAP, and Airvo. Bedside monitors and a monitor bank are available at the charge desk. There is a monitor tech on site. Shifts consist of days from 7 AM to 7 PM and nights from 7 PM to 7 AM with an expectation to work four shifts per week. Weekend work is typically required every other weekend, depending on coverage. Holiday work may also be required based on coverage needs. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. RNs will float between ICU and PCU with occasional floating to other departments if necessary. Scrub color is navy blue. New employee orientation in the first week is required.
