The unit specializes in neurocritical care and treats various patient types. Common diagnoses include ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, and post-operative craniotomies. The facility operates a 29-bed ICU, with an average daily census of 29. Patient ratios are typically RN: 1:2, and may occasionally increase if patients have downgrade orders. Patient care may include management of telemetry and treatment following interventional procedures. Team members include a supervisor, stroke response nurse, clinical educator, and charge nurse. There is a 24/7 availability of intensivists and other specialized providers. Support staff such as PT/OT/ST and social work are present seven days a week for patient assistance. Unit technology includes electronic medical records, IV pumps, and various specialized monitoring equipment. Flexibility to float to other critical care units as needed is required. Scheduling includes weekends and a holiday rotation where travelers will work 75% of holidays. Teamwork and retention are key focuses of the unit culture. Navy blue scrubs are required for this position.
