Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years ICU RN experience required License: Current RN License required Certifications: NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS certification required Must-Have: CCRN preferred but not required Description: We are seeking a dedicated RN for the ICU unit. The facility has 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma designation. This is a teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The ICU unit has 14 beds and typically maintains a census of 14 patients. Patients include those with respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI Bleeds, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. You will work with patients who are on chronic ventilators and trachs. The role involves managing hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring and close observation. Patient ratios are typically 1:1 to 1:2, with rare situations of 1:3. There are 1-2 CNAs per shift to assist with tasks such as vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating, turning patients, and transporting as needed. The unit is equipped with a charge nurse, unit secretary, and a resource nurse. Respiratory therapists and hospitalists are available 24/7, as well as intensivists. Nursing staff will utilize modern technology, including an electronic medical record system and advanced monitoring equipment. Essential skills include trach care, chest tube management, IV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, and monitoring of invasive lines. You will also assist with various bedside procedures such as chest tube placements and tracheostomies. Teamwork is valued in this busy environment, and support will be provided by the resource team.
