No on-call requirement is expected. Float opportunities may arise to other units or locations. Being available to work holidays is anticipated to meet scheduling needs. Weekend shifts are required, with every other weekend or a total of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period determined by the unit's needs. The nurse will manage patient ratios of 1:2-3. Pending licenses will not be accepted. Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers. References are required from managers, supervisors, charge nurses, or directors within the last year. The flu vaccine is mandatory, with medical or religious exemptions considered only. The following skills are essential: Accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, assist with chest tube insertion/removal. Management of BiPAP/CPAP, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, and central line care/management. Monitoring central venous pressure, chronic/acute renal failure, and managing continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade. The nurse will engage in various critical care procedures, implement emergency medications, and perform 12 lead EKG/ECG. Management of dysrhythmias, post-cardiac surgery care, and procedural sedation administration/monitoring are part of the duties. The nurse will also be responsible for pulmonary artery line monitoring and execute infection prevention protocols, including isolation precautions. Additional responsibilities include managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction and conducting phlebotomy and suctioning. Knowledge of health protocols relating to ventilators and specific surgical intensive care procedures are also required.
