Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 (7a-7p) Experience: Minimum of 2 years ICU RN experience required. License: Active RN License required. Certifications: NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS certification required. Must-Have: CCRN preferred but not required. Description: We are seeking a dedicated RN for our Intensive Care Unit. The facility is a teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds and offers Level 1 Trauma designation. The unit has 14 beds and typically operates with a census of 14 patients. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. Nurses will manage patients on chronic ventilators and tracheostomies, as well as hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring and close observation. The patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:1 to 1:2, with a possibility of 3 under rare circumstances. Caring and skilled CNAs will assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating, turning patients, and transporting patients as needed. The unit operates with a unit secretary from 7 AM to 11 PM, transitioning to a house-wide call secretary overnight. Some nurses may take on charge nurse responsibilities, which may involve patient care as well. Various nursing certifications and skills are required, including experience with medication management for vasoactive medications and invasive line monitoring. Assist in managing various bedside procedures such as chest tube placement, tracheostomy care, and PEG tube placement. The department is well-supported with a Respiratory Therapist on staff 24/7, Hospitalist coverage, and Intensivist services available around the clock. Telemetry monitoring is centralized through a dedicated unit. Technology includes an electronic medical record system, various infusion pumps, and specialized monitoring equipment. Nurses may float to other adult ICU units as needed.
