The unit consists of both ICU and PCU beds, used primarily in surge capacity. The average daily patient census is approximately 7.3 patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2-3, depending on patient acuity. The facility does not have residents or students, ensuring focused attention on patients. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, and strokes. Critical care skills are essential, including the administration of medications and managing critical care drips. The nurse will collaborate with a charge nurse and a house supervisor for patient care. Patient care support includes phlebotomy and respiratory therapy, available 24/7. Floating to other units may be required based on operational needs. Travelers will participate in a weekend rotation and are expected to work a significant number of holidays. Communication and teamwork are key values within the unit culture, and staff should be open to constructive feedback. The dress code includes navy scrubs with specific guidelines for undershirts.
