Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of ICU experience required License: Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Stroke experience, ventilator management, assist with intubation/extubation, central venous line management and placement, Foley catheter management, tube feedings via NGT or PEG, IV medication titration, vasoactive drip management, total care of critically ill patients, arterial line management, external ventricular drain management Description: This position entails working in an intensive care unit that has 20 beds. The average patient census is 16. Adult surgical and medical ICU patients will be seen, with diagnoses including STEMI, DKA, respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, and neuro conditions such as craniotomies and traumatic brain injuries. This role may also involve caring for surgical patients including general, total joints, urology, and neuro cases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Travelers are expected to have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must have been separated from the facility for 1 year if previously employed as permanent staff. Travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. A charge nurse will be available without patient assignments during daytime shifts. There will be one CNA per shift and phlebotomy services for peripheral lab draws. A PICC team and respiratory therapy will be available 24/7. Hospitalists are also available 24/7. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is through Pyxis. There may be floating to a progressive care unit or medical-surgical unit if needed. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend. There may be potential holiday work obligations during the contract. Requests for time off will be accommodated for no more than 7 days. Shift times are either 0700-1900 or 1900-0700. Schedules may rotate every 3 or 5 days. Scrub color is pewter gray, and T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with the designated monogram. Jackets must be gray or black and badges must be visibly worn above the waist at all times. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and support among staff.
