Travel RN - ICU Position Summary

Trident Regional Medical Center - North Charleston, SC

 

Key Position Details

  • Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 (Nights)
  • Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts per week

  • Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week

  • Uniform: Navy required
  • Level II Trauma Center

Unit Details - ICU

  • Total Beds: 28 (mixed ICU)
  • Nurse:Patient Ratio:
    • Standard: 1:2
    • Higher acuity: 1:3
  • Charting System: Meditech
  • Technology: i-Mobile phones for care team, mobile computer workstations on wheels
  • Patient Handoff: Bedside shift report required for every patient transfer of care

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • MUST HAVE:
    • 36 months (3 years) RN experience minimum
    • Minimum 1 year ICU experience
    • Ability to care for 1-3 ICU patients
    • Ventilator management skills
    • Proficient in reading telemetry strips
    • Bedside shift report competency
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (required)
    • ACLS (required)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (required)
  • License: Active SC or Compact RN license required
  • Preferred:
    • 1 previous successful travel nursing assignment
    • Meditech EMR experience
    • BSN degree
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • Advanced certifications

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

Common Patient Types:

  • Cardiovascular: Post-op day 0 CABG (fresh from OR), Impellas, balloon pumps, Swan Ganz catheters
  • Neuro: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, EVDs, bolts (Codman), Arctic Sun (induced hypothermia)
  • Trauma: Level II trauma center patients
  • Post-op: Head and neck flap procedures (1 of 14 programs in nation)
  • Advanced Hemodynamics patients

Advanced Skills Required:

  • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
  • Advanced Hemodynamics monitoring
  • Phlebotomy
  • EVD management (External Ventricular Drain)
  • Swan Ganz catheter management
  • IABP management (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
  • Impella management
  • Arctic Sun hypothermia management
  • Ventilator management
  • Telemetry interpretation
  • Neuro assessments (given Stroke Center accreditation)

Additional Duties:

  • Respiratory treatments: Inhalers and nebulizers administered by nurses outside ICU

Staffing Support

  • Charge Nurse: Available
  • Rapid Response Teams
  • RT: Available for vent management
  • Phlebotomy support

Schedule Requirements

  • Shifts: 4x12-hour per week
  • Hours: 19:00 - 07:00 (nights)
  • Weekends: Every other weekend (in rotation with hospital employees)
  • Holidays: In rotation with hospital employees
  • Floating:Travelers are FIRST to float
    • May be sent to Emergency Department
    • May be sent to PCU
    • May handle PCU or ICU holds
