Job Summary:
Telemetry Medical Surgical Float Nurse in Garden City, Kansas. This position involves working in a fast-paced acute care environment across multiple units, including general medical-surgical, cardiac, neuro, oncology, and other specialties. The role requires flexibility to float within Zone 4, which encompasses several local facilities, with a focus on adult patient populations. This is an open shift position with scheduled days, and candidates must be prepared to assist with various clinical needs within the zone.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Days shift, 11.5 hours per shift, minimum of 34.5 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications include BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale). Candidates should have at least 2 years of recent MS-Telemetry experience within the last 3 years. Valid RN license is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior neuro experience, familiarity with Alaris infusion pumps, and EPIC electronic health record system are preferred. Experience with titrating drips such as Heparin is common.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required within Zone 4, covering facilities around Garden City, Ulysses, and Dodge City, KS. The traveler will be assigned to different units, including MS-Tele, Tele, ICU (low acuity), PCU/Stepdown, among others, based on daily operational needs.
  • Patient Population: Adults including geriatrics, with diagnoses spanning cardiac, neuro, oncology, renal, surgical, and medical conditions.
  • Nursing Ratios: 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
  • Unit Staffing: Includes nurse aids, monitor techs, and equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPap. Charge nurses are designated per shift and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary.
  • Scheduling: Completed by leadership for six-week periods; travelers should be flexible with schedule changes and help fill staffing gaps. Requests for time off must be submitted prior to starting.
  • Weekend & Holiday Requirements: Six to nine weekend shifts within a six-week schedule; possible involvement in holiday rotation.
  • Other Details: Will be required to float into other acuity levels as needed, including ICU, PCU, and MS-Tele. The first float assignment will be communicated on or before the start date.
