Job Title
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg / Swing (Float to Emergency Department)
LocationMissouri Valley, IA
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Night Shift (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | Onsite | Every third weekend required | Holiday rotation with core staff
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a MedSurg/Swing unit with a patient ratio of 1:5–6, caring for diagnoses including CHF, pneumonia, and diabetic or cardiac Progressive Care level patients
- Administer and manage set-rate drip medications including antibiotics; titration of drips is not required
- Float to the Emergency Department as needed to provide additional support
- Collaborate with an experienced small team while maintaining the independence necessary to function effectively in a critical access hospital setting
- Serve as a patient and department advocate with a focus on quality, safety, and critical thinking in a unit without on-site consultation services
- Adhere to all facility dress code and infection control policies, including artificial nail prohibitions in patient care areas
Required Qualifications- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Ability to pass a required open-book skills competency exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility and must not be currently or recently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
- Valid driver's license required at time of submittal
Preferred Experience / Skills- Prior travel nursing experience, particularly in a critical access or small community hospital environment
- Experience with MedSurg patient populations including skilled patients requiring PT/OT services
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited resources while maintaining high standards of patient care
- Flexibility, adaptability, and confidence in clinical nursing skills
