Professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments are required. The ability to work independently in completing assignments is essential. Guidelines include provider orders, standards of care, nursing policies and procedures manuals, and hospital policies. Nursing duties include support to individuals of all ages and their families. Clinical decisions are made independently during the scheduled shift. Complete accountability for all actions taken is maintained. Consultation with the appropriate manager/supervisor and/or ancillary department occurs in difficult situations requiring additional input or resources. The nurse must react in a calm manner and make sound nursing judgments in an emergency situation. Proper delegation and supervision of nursing assistants and technicians are required.
