Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse, Ambulatory Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night shift, 12 hour shifts Hours per Shift: 36 guaranteed hours Experience: Minimum of one year clinical nurse experience preferred License: Valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska Certifications: Must have BLS and PALS upon hire. ACLS must be obtained within six months of hire date. Must-Have: Must have current Alaska license. Must have flu vaccination. Description: The clinical nurse coordinates and performs a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages. This position requires professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments. The nurse must be able to work independently in completing assignments. Guidelines include provider's orders, standards of care, nursing policies and procedures manuals, and hospital policies. Nursing duties include support to individuals of all ages and their families. Clinical decisions are made independently during the scheduled shift, maintaining complete accountability for all actions taken. The nurse consults with the appropriate manager or supervisor in difficult situations requiring additional input or resources. The role requires the ability to react calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergency situations. The nurse is accountable for proper delegation and supervision of support staff. Carries out the medical and nursing care plan and coordinates patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members. Takes action to reduce, correct, or prevent risks to patient safety. Facilitates healing by providing individualized, goal-oriented nursing care based on scientific principles. Communicates and interacts with patients and significant others in a positive and supportive way. Explains tests, procedures, and disease processes to patients and their families. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and revises care plans as necessary. Documents the patient's response to care, ensuring confidentiality of patient information. Completes thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process. Identifies problems and nursing diagnoses by recognizing the impact of health issues on patients and families.
