Job Title: Nurse Manager, Emergency Department Profession: IMC Specialty: Nursing Administration Duration: 13 Months Shift: Evening Shift Hours per Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Experience: Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience in management and/or supervisory roles in the Emergency Department License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Client Certifications: BLS, ACLS, & PALS Must-Have: - Emergency Department experience - Master's Degree in Nursing - 1 year of EPIC experience Description: The Nurse Manager, Emergency Department, assumes 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The Nurse Manager is responsible for oversight and direction of the emergency department and accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the department. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with all other healthcare team members. Weekend and holiday coverage may also be required as part of this role. Performs related duties as required. Operational Performance: Develops long-term unit staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs. Develops measures and monitors unit operational performance metrics, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates. Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees within the department. Responsible for ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the emergency department. Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED and trauma patients. Approaches others in a tactful manner and treats others with respect and consideration. Supports and interprets policies, procedures, and objectives of the organization. Monitors customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve scores. Monitors patient volume, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement. Maintains a departmental dashboard that includes information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership. Investigates patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns and works to resolve issues. Maintains required competencies for self and all employees within the department. Participates in a professional organization. Clinical Practice/Patient Care: Collaborates to establish nursing care standards and evaluates staff compliance. Identifies protocols affecting the patient population served and keeps nursing staff informed. Demonstrates self-development and stays current on clinical management and healthcare topics. Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients, families, and staff conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance. Ensures equal access to treatment for all persons in need. Management: Participates in overall planning processes for the service. Conducts monthly meetings with staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals, objectives, performance metrics, and improvement activities. Human Resource Development/Management: Educates and evaluates staff. Works with nursing leadership and Human Resources to counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as needed. Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
