Job Title: Nurse Manager, Emergency Department Profession: IMC Specialty: Nursing Administration Duration: 13 months Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Experience: Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience in management and/or supervisory roles in the Emergency Department License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Must have Emergency Department experience and a Master's degree in Nursing Description: The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Responsibilities include oversight and direction for the emergency department, along with accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the department. Fostering an environment of collaboration and respect with all healthcare team members is essential. Weekend and holiday coverage is also a responsibility of this role. This position performs related duties as required. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Operational Performance includes developing long-term unit staffing schedules and ensuring adequate daily coverage based on established staffing needs. The Nurse Manager develops measures and monitors unit operational performance metrics, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy and turnover rates. Overseeing daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees within the department is critical. Responsible for ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the emergency department. Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients. Approaching others in a tactful manner and treating others with respect and consideration is necessary. Support and interpret policies, procedures, and objectives. Monitoring customer satisfaction scores and implementing plans to improve these scores is vital. Monitoring patient volume, quality of care, and performance of staff identifies areas for improvement. Maintain a departmental dashboard including information and progress on key metrics. Responsible for investigating complaints and working to resolve them effectively. Maintaining required competencies for self and all employees within the department is expected. Participating in a professional organization is encouraged. Clinical Practice/Patient Care involves collaborating with nursing leadership to establish nursing care standards and evaluating staff compliance. Identifying relevant protocols affecting the patient population and keeping nursing staff informed is essential. Demonstrating self-development and staying current on various clinical management and healthcare topics is important. Maintaining a safe and caring environment for patients and staff is crucial to promote positive health teaching. Ensuring equal access to treatment for all individuals in need is a priority. Management responsibilities include participating in the overall planning process for the service. Conducting monthly meetings with staff to address various topics is necessary. Human Resource Development/Management entails educating and evaluating staff. Working with nursing leadership to address staff issues as needed is required. Educating staff on new and existing department procedures is part of the role. Creating and maintaining an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward everyone is essential.
