Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required Must-Have: Must have EPIC experience Description: The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care. The nurse collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team. Delivery of patient care is coordinated for patients of all ages including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care. Certain aspects of patient care delivery are delegated to other nursing staff based on clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients. An individualized plan of care is designed and implemented for assigned patients. The effectiveness of the plan, patient responses to care, and progress towards established goals are evaluated. The plan is modified as necessary, considering age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. Collaboration with other disciplines is essential to formulate the plan of care. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages is applied to the delivery of patient care. The nurse utilizes knowledge of pharmacology when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education is provided in all phases of care to gain cooperation and promote compliance. Knowledge assessment is conducted, and appropriate learning activities are planned and evaluated for effectiveness. The nurse responds to emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters following established protocols. Delivery of patient care is overseen, and errors are challenged or corrected to ensure patient safety. Observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients are reported in a timely manner. Responsibility and accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making is demonstrated. Continuity of care is ensured by promptly processing and following through on physician's orders. The ability to set appropriate priorities in providing patient care is necessary. Acting as the patient's advocate, the nurse ensures patient rights are preserved. Knowledge of job descriptions is maintained, and appropriate delegation is done based on clinical competence. Responsibility for own actions and decisions is accepted. Registered nursing is practiced according to the Nurse Practice Act. Communication skills and appropriate resources are utilized for effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to assigned patients are documented. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies and procedures. Medications and IVs are prepared and administered with consideration of age-specific needs. Emergency procedures are performed, and patient responses are assessed. Safe use of equipment is demonstrated, including electric beds, infusion pumps, and physiologic monitors. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
