This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for various medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. Key responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition, and administering medications and treatments as per physician orders. The ER RN continuously monitors patients' vital signs and response to treatments, making necessary adjustments to interventions. Documentation of patient information and treatment plans in electronic health records or paper charts is also required. Patient education regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions is provided. ER RNs respond to rapid response calls and critical situations requiring immediate intervention. Ensuring patients’ rights, dignity, and preferences are respected is essential. Compliance with infection control protocols is necessary to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff. Participation in ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggesting improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes is expected. The role supports the hospital's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Agency nurses may be floated to other departments as needed. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary. Candidates must possess strong clinical skills and critical thinking abilities, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work under pressure and handle a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity is essential. Physical requirements include the ability to perceive sounds, express ideas, perceive object characteristics, and perform various physical tasks.
