Job Title: Ambulatory Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Main Conv Care Plus Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (9:00 AM - 9:30 PM) Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: ED or Inpatient experience, EPIC experience Description: The Ambulatory Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the state nursing board. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice. Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate. Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups. Acts as a preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students. Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes. Administers medication via various methods including IM, PO, Rectal, IV, SQ, and Inhaled. Performs procedures such as ear washes, nebulizer treatments, peak flows, splint applications, crutch training, wound care, point of care testing, IV starts and therapy, vision screenings, EKG, catheterizations, and suture/staple removal. Assists providers with procedures including vaginal exams, suture and staple placement, and incision and drainage. Serves as a member of the Code Team when needed. Acts as a Nurse Lead when assigned during the shift. Serves as a preceptor for new employees. Performs patient education and provides written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up instructions. Assists with prescription medication refills per department protocols. Communicates with pharmacies regarding medication refills and documents actions within the electronic medical record per provider orders. Maintains department-specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training. Cleans instruments as needed. Rooms patients by collecting pertinent information regarding the patient’s chief complaint, vital signs, and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit. Completes necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other healthcare facilities. Communicates test results to patients via phone and an electronic platform while managing the nurse's in-basket.
