Job Title: Registered Nurse - ER Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Mids/Eves Hours per Shift: 36 hours guaranteed Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Emergency Department License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI or MOAB, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Critical thinking skills, IV starts, medication administration, dosage calculation, basic nursing skills, self-motivation, and gtt management are required. Description: Shift is from 1 PM to 1 AM with a schedule of 5 on, 2 off every Wednesday and Thursday. The unit has 19 single beds and 6 Fast Track beds. The patient types include ages from newborn to geriatric, covering all ED patients. Common conditions include respiratory distress, diabetes, gastrointestinal bleeding, COPD, and general medicine. In addition, strokes (both ischemic and hemorrhagic) and some cardiac issues such as CHF and dysrhythmias are included. Minor traumas, such as motor vehicle accidents and falls, are also part of patient care. Mental health and substance abuse cases are frequently treated. Patient ratios are 1 RN to 3-4 patients. CNA support varies based on shift staggering. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who assigns patients based on staffing levels. Phlebotomy services are in-house, along with a dedicated IV/VAT team available for PICC and midline placements. A resource nurse is present, contingent on staffing. Respiratory Therapy services are available 24/7, with a hospitalist also available around the clock. Travelers must be adaptable to a family-like and teamwork-oriented culture. Scheduling occurs in 8-week cycles, with mandatory rotations of 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Every other weekend is required for work. Requests for time off can be made, but must not exceed 7 days in total. Only one weekend of time off is permitted per 13-week contract. Holiday work is expected for 2-3 holidays during the contract period. Scrub color is pewter; approved t-shirt colors are gray, white, or black with a designated monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.
