Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated timeframe. The RN provides care to these patients through the nursing process, utilizing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy. The position involves performing all necessary responsibilities and duties related to the defined scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories specific to emergency department nursing. Initial assessments upon patient admission are completed, leading to the development of an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. The RN executes the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifications to the plan of care are made based on continuous evaluation. Safety is a primary responsibility, with the RN reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents as necessary. Effective communication with colleagues, visitors, and families promotes a healthy and healing environment. The RN is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation. Feedback is offered to peers to assist in professional development and to expand the overall knowledge base. The RN identifies personal learning needs and takes the initiative to address them. Fulfillment of all departmental competency requirements is expected.
