Job Title: Registered Nurse - ER Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ED experience required; first-time travelers must have 2 years of perm staff RN experience in acute care. License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI or MOAB Must-Have: General nursing knowledge Emergency department experience Ventilator management skills Critical care drips/titration experience Cardiac rhythm interpretation ability Ability to measure cardiac strips Familiarity with drains and chest tubes Experience with hemodynamic lines, including arterial lines and central venous pressure lines Stroke experience, including TPA administration Conscious sedation knowledge Assisting with splinting, with tech support Knowledge of suicide risk assessments Description: This position requires a registered nurse to work in the emergency room. The unit has a capacity of 29 beds, catering to infants and patients at the end of life. Nursing ratios are 1:3-4 or 1:5 in fast-track areas. The emergency department treats all acuity levels, including medical-surgical, stepdown, and ICU patients. Traumas stabilized in the facility are transferred to a larger institution. Patient types include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, stroke requiring interventions, spinal precautions, seizures, DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, COVID, ETOH, IVDA, GI illnesses, and infections. The traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance before arrival. Support on the unit includes charge nurses who may take patient assignments, in-house phlebotomy, and resource nurses depending on staffing. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse, and IV pumps are Alaris. Medication dispensing is through Pyxis. Weekend rotations are mandatory, requiring work every other weekend. Staff may work four days one week and three days the next week. There is a holiday commitment of two out of three major holidays. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement, with no cell phone usage in patient care areas, earbuds not permitted, and no eating at desks.
