Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Full-Time Variable Shift (Day/Night/Holiday Rotation) Hours per Shift: 3x12 hours + 2 On Call shifts per 4 weeks Experience: Two years acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department License: Current Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Two years of experience serving as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of one year in an Emergency Department setting Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaborates to provide direct care. The RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. Skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures and treatments is essential for managing both life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety concerns. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate. The RN connects with patients and families during triage and identifies the initial management of patients according to established Triage Standards. He/She establishes rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing frequent updates. The ED RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs and correctly identifies necessary steps and interventions required. The RN reassesses patients to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately. Encourages and builds trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. He/She teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The ED RN understands responsibilities for safeguarding public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. Prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, and makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. He/She teaches patients what is needed for continued care and healing at home and structures education sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks to understand what is most important to the patient and family, recognizing them as the central focus of care and services. Maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout their ER visit and updates patient communication boards regularly.
