Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day, Evening Shifts Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of experience Description: Unit notes indicate that candidates may not have been directly employed by any associated facility within the past year. Candidates who were employed through outside firms will be considered. The RN must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia test with a score of 83% before signing the contract. Candidates will have three attempts to pass this test. Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination. This facility operates as a Level III Trauma Center. It accepts STEMI and Stroke patients. The unit has 18 beds, including 4 critical rooms designated for trauma or codes. There is a Fast Track and a separate Triage area, and travelers are allowed to participate in Triage. ER holds are intermixed within the ER, and ER nurses will care for these holds. There is one separate Psych/seclusion room available. Security is in-house 24/7 and conducts rounds in the ER. On average, the ER treats 70 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4, depending on acuity. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Common patient diagnoses include pediatrics, cardiac cases, STEMIs, strokes, and general ER issues like abdominal pain and respiratory concerns. RNs are required to be comfortable with common drips seen in the ER, including pressors and sedation. An MD is present in-house 24/7, with 72 mid-level providers staggered throughout busy times. The charge nurse typically does not take patient assignments. There are 2 Patient Care Technicians per shift, who may occasionally serve as sitters. Respiratory Therapists are present in the ER to perform ABGs and breathing treatments, while RNs conduct EKGs. RNs are responsible for troubleshooting various respiratory equipment. There are no monitor techs in the ER, so RNs must read and interpret their own strips. X-Ray and CT services are located nearby, and staff will assist with transportation. Phlebotomy draws labs in the ER. The shift schedule includes 12-hour shifts, with weekend requirements every other weekend. Holidays are worked into the permanent staff rotation. There are no call or standby requirements. Travelers usually do not float to other units unless necessary. Navy scrubs are required, with undershirts also in navy. Scrub jackets are optional, but they must be navy. Unit-specific orientation may range from 1-3 shifts, depending on experience. RNs are not responsible for arranging placements for psych patients. There is a designated process for screening and setup if patients meet inpatient criteria. Travelers are encouraged to extend their assignments. The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled for 13-week assignments. The charting system in use is MEDITECH. Please note that a BSN degree is not required for this position. Compliance with all certification requirements is essential.
