Job Title: Emergency Department RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Must have state license or compact license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: ACLS BLS PALS TNCC and NRP certifications are ideal, but not required Ultrasound IV insertion skills are preferred, but not required Description: The emergency department has 16 beds. Patient ratios are 3-4:1 or 1:1 for trauma or critical patients. Staffing includes unit secretaries and tech availability. Equipment includes Bd insyte IVs and a documentation system. Staff will be required to work 36 hours per week either from 06:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 06:00, including two weekends a month. Floating policy states that RNs will not float to the emergency department unless cross-trained. Advanced skills required include EKGs, breathing treatments, digit blocks, and knowledge of chest tubes, central lines, and lumbar puncture setup. Procedures performed on the unit include peripheral IV insertion, ultrasound-guided IV insertion, IO insertion management, central line dressing changes, and specimen collection. Additional procedures include blood culture collection, monitoring end tidal CO2, performing 12-lead ECG acquisition, assisting with defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing. Staff will also manage Belmont rapid infuser operation, implement massive transfusion protocols, apply splints, control hemorrhage, apply tourniquets, perform wound irrigation, and administer IV medications and blood products. Procedural sedation monitoring, medication titration, and use of the Broselow/Panda system for pediatric patients are also required. Foley catheter insertion and straight catheter insertion will be performed as needed. Staff will work in a supportive team environment and closely collaborate with physicians and mid-level practitioners.
