Key Responsibilities of the Emergency Department Registered Nurse
  • Apply nursing theory, technical, and communication skills to deliver high-quality care
  • Assess patient needs and priorities for urgent or emergent care
  • Provide direct care and appropriate interventions
  • Conduct primary and secondary assessments of critical needs
  • Establish rapport and effective communication with patients and families
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and discharge
  • Address emotional and psychosocial needs of patients and families
  • Encourage teamwork and build trust among team members
  • Teach and delegate tasks consistently with scope of practice

Requirements of the Emergency Department Registered Nurse
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only)
  • Two years' ED acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse
