Job Title: Registered Nurse - Electrophysiology Profession: RN Specialty: Electrophysiology Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 10.5 hours Experience: Minimum one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse; experience in high acuity critical care, emergency departments, or Cath Lab preferred. License: Current Registered Nurse license in the state or a current compact/multi-state license. Certifications: American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card and ACLS; RCIS or RCES credential preferred. Must-Have: Experience in Electrophysiology; ability to float to cover the Cath Lab if needed. Description: The RN in the EP Lab is responsible for assisting with all procedures performed in the EP lab. This position requires competence in the use of EP monitoring/stimulation systems, intra-cardiac echo, and 3D mapping systems. Knowledge of sterile technique is essential, along with assisting the physician with the implantation of permanent pacemakers, ICDs, and Bi-V-ICDs. A high degree of understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and invasive EP procedures is necessary. The RN must operate and troubleshoot the X-ray system effectively. Assistance with cleaning and restocking the lab as needed is part of the role. Effective communication with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, patients, family members, and internal team members is crucial. The RN should monitor the performance of EP procedures, suggest improvements, and ensure work is performed according to quality standards. The ability to respond calmly and efficiently to emergency situations that may arise in the EP lab is required. Professional behavior in the workplace is essential. Safety standards, policies, and procedures must be adhered to at all times. Continuous improvement of workplace safety through reporting unsafe conditions and suggesting improvements is expected. Education and empathy should be used to alleviate patients' apprehension regarding invasive procedures. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Perform all applicable procedures in line with policies and manufacturer instructions. Monitor patient, staff, and physician radiation exposure to keep levels as low as reasonably achievable. Demonstrate an understanding of all EP lab procedures, equipment, and supplies, and indications for performing each procedure. Assist the physician using appropriate sterile technique for all procedures performed in the EP lab. Administer medications, defibrillation, or other treatments as ordered within the scope of practice. Educate patients regarding procedures to ensure comfort and cooperation. Accurately enter patient demographics into monitoring and X-ray equipment. Collect and record patient data during procedures and relay this information accurately. Manage patient tracking data and assist with room stocking and inventory maintenance. Perform other duties as required. Display skills in communication, critical thinking, record keeping, and establishing effective working relationships. React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
