Position Summary

The Neurosurgical ICU Nurse Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and professional development initiatives for nursing staff within the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). This role supports clinical excellence, promotes evidence-based practice, and ensures staff competency through orientation programs, continuing education, simulation training, competency validation, and ongoing professional development.

The Nurse Educator collaborates with nursing leadership, interdisciplinary teams, and organizational stakeholders to foster a culture of lifelong learning, patient safety, and quality outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate educational programs for Neurosurgical ICU nursing staff.
  • Facilitate orientation, onboarding, preceptor development, transition-to-practice programs, and annual competency assessments.
  • Design and deliver classroom instruction, simulation training, computer-based learning modules, and continuing education programs.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify learning needs and implement evidence-based educational strategies.
  • Support clinical competency validation and ongoing professional development initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for nursing staff, preceptors, and clinical leaders.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and support quality improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Function as a nurse planner for continuing nursing education activities in accordance with Montana Nurses Association (MNA) and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) standards.
  • Serve as a program administrator for Lippincott Nursing Procedures and other clinical education resources.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees, regulatory readiness activities, and accreditation initiatives.
  • Monitor educational outcomes and revise programs based on quality metrics, staff feedback, and organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with DNV requirements, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and nursing professional development practices
  • Advanced knowledge of neurocritical care, critical care standards, and evidence-based nursing practice
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, electronic medical records (EMR), learning management systems, and internet-based applications

Schedule Requirements
  • Regular and sustained attendance is required.

  • Ability to work varied shifts to support staff education across all schedules.
